Why Darakav never overwrites a balance

6 November 2026 · 2 min read

In most apps a balance is a number you can change. In Darakav every change is an entry. Why does that small difference matter?

In most personal finance apps, an account’s balance is a number you can change whenever you like. If it doesn’t match your bank, you just edit it. That is simple, but it has one big problem: you no longer know why the number changed.

Darakav takes a different route, the one accounting has used for centuries.

A balance is the result of its history

In Darakav every financial event is recorded as an entry: income, an expense, a transfer between accounts, a currency purchase or an installment payment. Each account’s balance is the sum of those entries. You don’t “enter” a balance; the balance is the result of what you have recorded.

That is why reports, charts and net worth always agree with each other: they are all calculated from the same history.

Mistakes are corrected, not erased

Mistakes happen: you type the wrong amount or record a transaction in the wrong account. In Darakav the wrong entry isn’t deleted or rewritten. A correcting entry is recorded next to it that reverses or fixes its effect.

That may seem odd at first, but the benefits are clear:

Every currency keeps its own balance

Many of us don’t deal only in Tomans: a few dollars or euros, some grams of gold, a little crypto. Darakav keeps a separate balance for each currency and records every exchange at an explicit rate. When you buy dollars, both the Tomans you paid and the dollars you received are recorded, at the rate you actually traded.

That way no number gets mixed up with guessed or outdated rates. When you see your net worth in Tomans, Darakav tells you which rate and source it used, and warns you when a rate is old or missing.

The result

This is a little more structured than “edit the number”, but in return it gives you a picture of your finances you can trust, one where every number has a clear origin.
